Athlete Bio: On October 1, 2006, Dathan raced to a third place finish at the BUPA Great North Run in Newcastle, England in his debut effort at the half marathon. He beat a number of stellar athletes including the 2004 Olympic Gold Medalist in the marathon. Dathan’s time of 1:01:25 was one of the fastest debuts ever at the distance for an American. Earlier in the year, in April of 2006, Dathan set a PR in the 10,000 meters with a time of 27:35 at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational. This race earned him ninth place on the USA all time top performers list at the distance. At the U.S.A. Track and Field National Championships, he placed third in the 5,000 meters with a PR of 13:16. In 2006 Dathan also debuted in the 26.2 mile distance at the ING New York City Marathon finishing in 11th place, 2nd American, with a time of 2:14:01 earning an A qualifier for the U.S.Olympic Marathon Trials. In 2005 he was 10K National Road Racing Champion. He is also a 2004 Olympian, 2003 NCAA Cross Country Champion, a bronze medalist on the U.S.A. junior team for the World Cross Country Championships and a two time Footlocker National High School Cross Country Champion.
